FMFT’s all-time favourite track cyclist (at the moment at least, and clearly only for reasons based in performance and results) is Jess Varnish.
She was also the only GB track cyclist not to win a medal at the London Olympics after she was disqualified, along with partner Victoria Pendleton, in the Team Sprint. Have a read of what she has to say in the Guardian. The interview also confirms my Twitter-stalking guess that she’s going out with GB BMXer Liam Phillips (who has hopefully now recovered from his hangover), which is moving somewhat away from reporting cycling news, for which I apologise.
From a cyclist who failed to win a medal (but who has been putting that behind her with great results at the World Track Championships in Columbia) to one who seemingly can’t stop winning awards.
Bradley Wiggins managed, in just the last few days, to win third in the 2009 Tour de France and then the Vélo d’Or award for the year’s best road cyclist as voted for by a panel gathered by French Vélo magazine.
All of which is pretty good going and cements him as a cycling legend and one who will hopefully define a new era of clean cycling.
What about some sweet real-world BMX to end today?
A
