Sean Yates also decided to retire. Any suspicions that he was involved in doping haven’t been confirmed, despite his close involvement with Armstrong in the Motorola Team, so he leaves the sport officially for his own reasons, even if people will inevitably question the timing.
Looking forward expect fireworks between sprinters in 2013 as Cavendish has already expressed his disappointment at the signing of Roberto Ferrari by Lampre.
When I thought I could put this years festival of sprint crashes behind me, I see Roberto Ferrari has signed for a WorldTour team next year.
— Mark Cavendish (@MarkCavendish) October 29, 2012
Ferrari was the rider who caused a large crash in a sprint at the Giro, which brought down Cavendish along with other big names. His response at the time didn’t make him popular as he claimed he was unconcerned about what goes on behind him in a sprint.
