Wiggins Winning

Away from the Olympics for a second and, for once, a commuting story to kick off.

It seems to be one of those periods where everyone forgets how to drive or cycle responsibly. Endless people in front of me and past me jumping red lights are becoming a regular feature of my ride and a driver in a Simply Junk van decided to try and drive me slowly off the road this morning. I don’t know about his load but his driving definitely was rubbish.

I’d been building up to that joke.

So the real story was the Olympic time trials, starting and ending at Hampton Court. The women’s event was first and American Kristin Armstrong took gold, with Emma Pooley the best placed Brit, in 6th.

The Men’s event was a real chance for gold for Wiggins, if he could beat his (mostly injured) rivals in the shape of Cancellara and Martin.

As I’m sure you know Wiggins smashed round, taking the win from Martin by 42 seconds, with Froome in bronze medal position. Cancellara underperformed, almost certainly through injury.

This makes Wiggins a 7 times Olympic medallist, even more of a legend, and cements even firmer his place in history. It also meant another massive podium with two British riders at the top of the sport.

Incredible.
