Olympic Moments

It’s a bit all-go at the moment what with the Olympics bringing big bike races to London over and over.

Tomorrow’s big event is the Men’s Time Trial. This really should be Wiggins’ opportunity to add yet another Olympic title to his palmares. His main challengers would have included Cancellara until he crashed on the road race and is sadly going to be racing fighting through the pain. The other danger-man is likely to be Tony Martin, who was off-form in the Tour de France and might be here with something to prove.

The start list is on Cycling Weekly, with start times to come soon (if they’re not there by the time this goes live).

Talking all things British cycling this is obviously an advert for Gatorade (as used by Team Sky) but it’s interesting nevertheless.

Obviously I forgot, in all the excitement to mention the bikes actually in the opening ceremony of the 30th Olympiad. Luckily for you the delay has let me find you a video of the dove-bike rehearsals.

I am good to you.

You might have noticed the lack of information to the commentators, and therefore viewers, during the road race. Apparently this was due to the large number of people using mobile devices and jamming the networks which supply information from the bikes. It does seem odd that this would be the case, as it seems something that could have been predicted, and we don’t see similar problems in the Tour de France coverage, for example.

If you’re more of a mountain biker and a bit more in the “gnar” camp of cycling then this might be getting a bit road-heavy. How about a nice flashy film trailer?

This was revised at 13:30 to correct the error I made in saying that Cancellara would not start the TT. He will.
