Disappointment and Other Things

What a weekend for cycling.

The Olympics got underway (in case you hadn’t noticed), and the first cycling story was the arrest of a critical mass protest.

Then there was Saturday and the men’s road race. I don’t need to tell you the expectation, nor, I imagine, the result as it’s been everywhere and showed just how many people in the media know so little about cycling, but pretend to. Anyway, excitingly FMFT saw a small part of the race, and then later tried not to feel too annoyed about Vinokourov winning as an unrepentant drug cheat.

Luckily the women’s race, on Sunday gave a bit more to be less depressed about as Lizzie Arminstead took silver.

The weekend also saw the Mountain Biking World Cup Round in Val d’Isere. In the downhill Rachel Atherton backed up her British Championship win with first place and Brook MacDonald took his first win ahead of Gee Atherton, with Gwin in fifth, but wrapping up the overall title. It looked something like this:

Around all this I kept my record of only riding Cwm Carn in the rain this year as well as a quick blast round the trails of Ashton Court and a need to rethink chain retention in the 1x9 Project.
