It’s been a weekend of legal issues in cycling.
At the end of last week the new big guns of Team Sky Procycling started their employment in the same team by voicing very different opinions on whether David Millar should be allowed to ride for Team GB at the Olympics. It’s easy to see both of their points of view, as Millar has undoubtedly done a lot to make up for his indiscretion, and would be a massive help for a bid at gold, but I am uneasy with anything that makes it at all ok for doping to go on in cycling. A true lifetime ban from representing your country is clearly more of a deterrent.
In other news, Specialized went out after two former employees in an intellectual property war, also raising arguments about whether a company can own all of the ideas and thoughts that people it employs have, even on their own time. Bearing in mind how much the guys involved have put into fighting the global corporation, I can’t help but hope that they win.
In Yorkshire a man has been brought to justice after stealing a retired banker’s bike as he floated dead or dying in a canal. It never ceases to amaze me that there are people who will take an opportunity like this for what sounds like a cheap bike, at the expense of someone’s life.
