I know you’ll all have been desperate to know how my riding to work worked out.

Well the slick-shod bike won out and the roads proved fairly clear and even dry, with the only major issue being the traffic, held up in neverending roadworks and with the snow’s only contribution being to stop me using the gutters as a sneaky way to slip past the queuing vehicles.

Even my trip home was pretty smooth, only interrupted by a snowball lobbed by “youths” on an estate, who scarpered as I hit the brakes to see who’d hit me. This worked out well for everyone involved as I was able to feel like I reacted and scared them off, and they probably ran off full of excitement at having hit me. Ultimately a confrontation would have gone badly (mostly for me) so I’m glad that things worked out as they did. Also I had to get home, you understand, so had to rise above the tykes on the streets.

I think it’s clear that I’ve scientifically established that a mountain bike is only really useful on days where the snow is still fresh. I’m looking forward to ending the week on some real snow, on a real hill. Until then there’s a few more days of dirty London roads to ride.
