The Dangers of Riding a Bike

I’m always in favour of cycling playing a predominant part in television programmes, and it seem to more and more and be seen as a realistic part of a modern life. I do worry a little about the impact that the BBC’s new 4-part drama “Single Father will have. It’s not ideal for the cause of cycling to have someone horribly killed while riding a bike in the first few minutes of the drama. Still I’m no campaigner for cycling having no risk at all (it’s the arriving alive every morning that makes it exciting!) and I’m not really all about pushing cycling with an agenda so I’ll just leave you to be sucked into the Sunday night drama as I was.

On the subject of cycling campaigns for a better infrastructure, one blog appears to be suggesting that we might be close to having pumping stations for bike tyres in London. This will obviously be good – if you find yourself needing one handily close to one, but it’s probably not going to be something to rely on, and it’s always a good idea to find the source of the loss of pressure, instead of blindly pumping the tyre back up.

It seems to be the season for high-profile bike thefts, and, unfortunately there are yet more bikes to keep an eye out for, as an exhibitor at the Cycle Show has been targeted this time. Do your bit if you see anything.
