Once again FMFT is ahead of the curve. We told you on Monday to ride a bike to avoid the tube strike and yesterday virtually every single national newspaper suggested you do the same. All I can conclude is that the small number of people who read this are, in fact, influential editors on these publications, and we have far more clout than we ever imagined.
We may or may not abuse this power in the future to change world events, betting outcomes and financial information to our advantage. Although we probably won’t get round to it.
Talking of being lazy, and in light of the trend for electric powered bikes that’s floating around the trade shows this year, paramedics in Scotland are looking into using assisted bikes to reach their patients. Normally I’m against this kind of thing as it seems like cheating and also the bikes have a tendency to be horrifically ugly, but if it means people get medical help quicker, and from a less out-of-breath paramedic then I suppose I’ll make an exception.
For another crunching segue, one person not using an electric bike, and in no way lazy, is Rob Lee. He is attempting a 10-day Land End to John O’Groats end to end challenge. He’s not following the well trodden path favoured by celebrities and the thousands of people who wear a groove in the roads every year, but is doing it all off-road. This is not only incredibly hard, but also sounds simply amazing. I am jealous of him riding every day and seeing all the country has to offer, although not so much of the agony it seems to be causing him. Follow Rob on his blog at http://roblee7ds.blogspot.com/.
