So that was the Downhill World Championships.
FMFT’s experience was blurred slightly by beer and by Freecaster’s odd slowing down just in time to miss the two runs we were really excited about. Still it was probably for the best that we didn’t see Gee Atherton and Steve Peat’s races as they drastically failed to live up to expectations. Granted the rain started to come down making the course more and more treacherous, and Sam Hill had a blinding run, having been nicely rested all season with some minor body rebuilding excuses.
Still we had much fun and developed the FMFT World Championships drinking game. If you want to play along at future events, the rules are simple. Just drink when the following things happen:
- Someone crashes (although try to moderate your drinking appropriately if the rider actually does any serious damage, or, in fact, if they don’t get up)
- A British rider takes the hot-seat.
- Rob Warner gets over excited or moves too close or too far away from the microphone during his Freecaster commentary
- Anyone mentions your selected rider.
- Any rider has a mechanical problem.
FMFT take no responsibility for hangovers or embarrassment due to drinking.
There are proper race reports all over the internet if you want a break-down, so we’ll just finish with a big congratulations to Tracy Moseley for her World Championship win. At least we’ll have one British Rider in rainbow stripes, even if it wasn’t who we expected.
