Road Roundup

Stage 16 of the Vuelta finally left the rain behind and did wonders for the Spanish tourist board by doing so on the day the race went back into the country. It was a stage that mixed everything up a bit. Bargui took a photo finish win in front of Sky's Rigoberto Uran by literally millimetres, giving him his second win in the Tour.

Behind that drama there was more as Nibali couldn't hang on as he has been and Horner was able to put time into him on the final climb, as were Valverde and Rodriguez, mixing up the GC with a week to go. Helpfully yesterday was a rest day so I have been able to catch you up.

On Sunday it'll finish in Madrid as the Tour of Britain kicks off. There is confirmation that more big names will be on the start line including Tour de France star Quintana, and Cavendish leading the OPQS team. It will be a race with the world's best climbers, sprinters and time-triallists, and should be a spectacle.

In other road news there is a move to improve facilities in London for the everyday cyclist, while the ridiculous end of the sport, with middle aged men spending thousands on kit to make them feel like a younger sponsored rider being satirised by the new Grand Theft Auto game. If you ask me that's a good thing.

Well, that's a lot of blacktop-based riding and it's time to balance it with a bit of this:
