Pay and Payback

There has been a lot of concern and focus recently on the disparity between the men's professional scene and the women's. Key in the discussions has been the issue of prize money. Commonly women are paid significantly less than men when it comes to cycling, and are rewarded far less handsomely for a win. It is, then, a noticeable step that the Tour of Britain will not only feature a women's race next year, but will pay the riders the same prizes..

Talking of news, you might have noticed that there was a royal baby born recently. I was able to ignore that fact thoroughly on here until London mayor,Boris Johnson, waded in to present the child with a tricycle painted up like a Boris bike. I can't argue with getting the future king riding early, can I really.

Getting back to what is often the point of this blog – looking at cool stuff on bikes – Danny Macaskill (star of a million cans of energy drink) has been to Taiwan to check out his signature tool line and ride some things:

4X has been a bit ignored here since it dropped off the UCI World Cup, and debates are raging on various Twitter feeds about whether it's a discipline that attracts failed riders from both BMX and downhill, for example. I think this overtaking move shows what it has to offer. Guts and skill or reckless? You decide. It's certainly spectacular.
