What Happened at the Weekend?

First things first. I had a busy weekend and when I should have been watching the Downhill World Cup from Andorra, I was being made into a small baby’s godfather and was not in front of the Internet. Thanks to the all-pervading nature of social media I do have an idea of what happened, but for now, why not watch it yourself on the replay.

Here

I promise you I will watch it in full and bring you a round up if time is tight, but you might have to wait a couple of days for me to have the time.

Still, there was plenty of other news to bring you in a snappy round up.

There was a cross country race in Andorra as well which, in the men’s event, was won as usual by Nino Schurter.

Meanwhile Liam Phillips won the BMX World Championships, bringing another rainbow jersey to Britain.

For those of you who want a taste of top-level competition it sounds more and more like the Olympic mountain bike course from 2012 will definitely be rideable in the future.

In the road world Lance Armstrong is unsurprised by the level of doping in cycling in the late 90s. Shocking.

There has been an excellent BBC programme called The Route Masters, about London transport. This week it included cyclists, which, as everyone knows we should be doing more of to ease congestion. Broadly it was interesting, with police officers ticketing red light jumpers (good), conflicts between drivers and cyclists (inevitable), an accident with a bus (scary), Critical Mass definitely helping the cause (sarcasm here, for anyone who missed it), and an intriguing insight into the super computer that runs the city’s traffic lights, which can apparently distinguish cyclists form other road users and allow more “green time”.

Finally Wales wants to tell you something about tree disease:
