A Green and Pleasant Land

This weekend I got out on the bike again for another trip round Hertfordshire. When I was younger I always used to ride this way, by exploring maps all week to find the likely-looking bridleways and then linking them together it’s nice to do it again, and each added section means more interesting riding. The wet week meant that spring had definitely sprung, I was carving through bright green overhung trails and my legs were burning, not just from the effort, but also the revitalised stinging nettles.

Enjoy my exploration here:

In the world of road cycling the Dauphine kicked off, and Sky set out to gain a third consecutive win, and kept Froome safe in with the GC contenders, finishing 5th on the stage. Also from Sky there was less happy news as they confirmed that Wiggins would not race the Tour de France as a knee problem is stopping him training as he needs to. On top of the chest infection that took him out of the Giro it’s not looking like his year at all. It seems that he will now target the Vuelta.

Elsewhere the rate of downhill mountain bike videos being released has upped as we get closer to the start of the international season. So we have Brendan Fairclough tearing it up for Scott:

And Steve Peat showing us what the new 650b bike form Santa Cruz can do. I want to get into some proper mountains now.
