Grande Inizio

Like a blog writer trying to avoid a “calm before the storm” metaphor it’s gone suspiciously quiet ahead of tomorrow’s Grande Inizio (yes, yes, I’m pretty sure that’s not a thing).

So it’s all going to happen tomorrow as Wiggins and Nibali go into the Giro as strong favourites ahead of a peloton packed with hopeful others. There should be some fireworks form Cavendish as he returns to Italy, and you can watch it all as long as you have a subscription to Eurosport, which I don’t, so I’ll be following cheekily at work, here.

In the meantime there was shock that the New York bike share scheme will be imposing a weight limit on riders who can hire the bikes. As it’s America, and being stereotypical, the weight limit is higher than on the London Scheme, coming in at 260 pounds. Shocking, right? To put that in English that’s nearly 18 Stone or 118 KG.

You can’t blame them somehow.

As you’ll know if you’re in the UK, it’s a Bank Holiday on Monday so there’ll be nothing here. I’m hoping to get some riding at the weekend to add into the mix of Giro news from Tuesday 7th May. Until then, I can’t finish this week without another street trials video, so I won’t.
