A Hint Of Spring?

Four days off work? I don’t mind if I do. And it would have been a shame not to get some riding in. It was about time to break a clear three months off the bike with some proper South England Mountain Biking. The weather is in no way doing anything properly so it was always going to be chilly and I predicted a bit of a mud-fest in the Chiterns after the wet and cold winter (and in fact last summer).

In the end it almost dared to be spring while I was out. I managed to ride without wearing all the clothes I own, and there were hints of a break in the winter, at least until a final flurry of snow reminded me that we’re not done with the cold yet.

It was a standard classic ride with the trails either still partially frozen, or with the mud scoured off by all the rain we’ve seen. Fast and flowy in places the ride was a brilliant chance to be properly in the bike for a first time in months. For those of you paying attention the headset was firmed up and my indexing of the gears was closer, and less irritating. I loved the chance to ride again.
