Weekend Wiggins

Bikes hit the news again at the end of last week, with everywhere noticing how New Yorkers were getting on two wheels after Hurricane Sandy and the lack of petrol. However, also in the news, were Bangladeshi women who are using bicycles to take computer equipment to remote areas and allow people access to the internet. As ever bikes can be a force for good and can help to unite people who are far apart.

This robot also hit the news as it can ride and steer a bike apparently on its own:

Given that how people actually do balance on a bike is allegedly one of those big scientific mysteries, this is impressive.

It was also a weekend for big cycling names, with views form different ends of cycling history. Tommy Goodwin sadly died and Cycling Weekly brought us his thoughts from before the 2012 Olympics on the last games in the UK, where the set up was far different but still brought glory.

Also the Guardian ran a big interview with Bradley Wiggins and will be serialising his book throughout this week. It makes for interesting reading form a sports hero that I like a lot for his real-world view as much as his achievements.

Competition-wise most eyes were on Paris and the Skyline BMX event. Nyquist apparently stormed it and you can see how here:
