I’m guessing you ride a bike. I mean why else would you be reading this blog all about bikes, with it’s dodgy hit-and-miss “comedy” and occasional ranting?
If you do you probably ride for a number of reasons only one which will occasionally be fitness. It’s a way to get to work faster with no reason to have to negotiate dealing with anyone else. No sharing a seat on the bus, or awkward conversations before you’re really awake with someone you half-know.
It might also be because it’s fun. Just playing around on two wheels is free and easy and you don’t need that much skill before you can get a big grin going with a fast hill or a little jump off a kerb.
Maybe it’s because it gets you out in the countryside and filling yourself with fresh air and greenery.
If you’re a triathlete or a certain type of roadie then it’s probably a bit more about racing and training and making sure you hurt yourself. However you still feel slightly superior to the joggers who are clearly just doing it for the pain and fitness alone and run very little risk of even slightly enjoying themselves by whooshing down a hill.
Now, you can have another reason to feel superior as some science has been done to show that you are not just having a better time but you are also using more muscles (which is obvious when you think about it) but clearly a good thing, if you’re into that type of malarkey.
