There are many things you can invent for a bike. In fact virtually anything you can think of can be transformed in some way to fit in with the design of a bike. There are people who like to add things to bikes and make them as much like a car as possible and these people are, in my opinion, missing the point of bikes altogether.
All of this was leading in to just such an invention. I mean, yeah, sure you can make a speaker to sit on the handlebars of your bike, but why would you?.
I suppose that if you’re someone who is desperate to listen to music as you ride it’s marginally better than wearing headphones in that it’ll leave your ears open to hear the traffic, but still adding distracting noise to your experience seems a little dangerous. There’s also the issue that you are basically turning your bike into one of those cars being driven with the windows down and the stereo up because the driver honestly believes that their music taste is better than anyone else’s and that it must be shared with the world. How confident are you in what you listen to that you want to be the bicycle equivalent of the teenagers on the back of the bus playing their tunes through their phone speaker and irritating everyone on their way home from work?
To be clear I enjoy riding a bike as a fairly simple activity (let’s face it I’ve spent time removing gears from all the bikes I own), and the link to the real world is part of the appeal. I don’t need a soundtrack on the roads and when I’m mountain biking I like the peace and quiet and the noise of the tyres on the trail. Therefore I guess this product isn’t aimed at me anyway.
Just be warned if I come across you riding with your music blaring out that look I give you won’t be admiration for your sublime “mix”.
