Cashing In

One fewer tough stage now stands between Wiggins and Paris in yellow after he and Froome controlled all attacks over the Tourmalet stage in the Pyrenees.

Thomas Voeckler claimed another spectacular win on a mountainous stage and both top Sky men worked to bring in attacks by Nibali, leaving no change in the top three. Evans slid backwards down the listings with another day of suffering, and was overtaken in the standings by his domestique, Van Garderen.

It was another full-on day of racing to distract from Frank Shleck’s doping suspension after a diuretic was found in his ‘A’ sample from Bastille Day. He intends to claim he was poisoned, but it’s hard to see exactly how this would have happened.

With out getting too excited it’s looking likely to be an historic day for British cycling on Sunday.

ITV are clearly already thinking that cycling is the new big money spinner and have a programme on Bradley Wiggins on tonight after the Tour highlights at 8pm.

They also have a new programme starting on Monday which absolutely totally doesn’t look like a cash-in on the cycling pound…

We’ll see what it’s like and report back. At least it’s more cycling on the telly if you’re suffering le Tour withdrawal then.
