Over the weekend I watched a film. It was called “Stick It” and seemed to be about a teenage girl turning her back on a potentially world beating career in BMX dirt jumping, a sport dominated by men, where she could have made a real change and become an internationally well known name for the rest of her life, to pursue the more obvious route of a short-term career in top flight gymnastics.
Mind you, I’m not 100% sure the double whip back flip was actually pulled by the girl in the rest of the film…
Talking of talent I popped to Lordship Rec at the weekend as well, and was thoroughly shown up by some of the riders there. One guy riding the pump-track on a BMX was jumping or manualling everything, which was super-smooth and fast, and then there were two guys on the skate park bit, fairly lazily pulling big turn-downs and tail whips. I mostly just watched and tried not to show myself up.
Hopefully I was as invisible as I seemed to be this morning, riding in to work and cut up by everything, including a lady on a bicycle.
