Boris Johnson managed to annoy the cycling lobby by making some comments at a debate over the mayoral election, focussed on cycling as a major issue. The cycling lobby got upset as BJ said he wasn’t a stereotypical cyclist in dreadlocks and lycra. He also said that cyclists need to stop feeling morally superior. Shocking right?
Well, I’m going out on a limb here, and I’m no conservative voter, but he has a point. I see some cyclists running lights and breaking road laws in a way that does make them seem like they’re above other road users. What makes those individuals think they’re better then the highway code? Obviously I love cycling, I love riding my bike in the roads every day to work and I do slightly like the danger but to be equal on the roads you have to act like an equal and that means following the same rules. So on this issue I kinda think Boris has a point.
Much less politically, get away from the glitz of London riding, and the European road scene and check out these pics form Rouleur, via Wired, of the Tour of Rwanda.
