Although I was back in London for the last couple of days of my break, I didn’t want to give up on some riding, especially as the weather decided to laugh in the face of a snow-warning and actually be nice.
With all of this in mind I headed again to Chicksands Bike Park.
It’s amazing what a bit of experience somewhere can do for you. Returning here (and perhaps also with a couple of weekend rides in my legs) I was more confident and basically better. Riding the cross country sections was more fun, possibly because I knew my way more and could concentrate on the riding, and the same went for the sections in the park. Rather then cruising around looking with wonder at the tracks I just got on with riding the one I had enjoyed last time and then gradually built up to the bigger lines. I’m still not gapping the massive jumps, but I was getting some modest flowy air and enjoying myself a lot. I think there’s definitely something to be said for coming back a few times to a place like this and learning some stuff.
A couple of hours on the well-drained bike park tracks and I could drive home feeling like I’d had the sort of fun I remember form when I was younger, just messing about in the park.
