Mountain Biking Everywhere

If you prefer your mountain biking with no mountains, or even any real biking then, apparently there’s a gadget for you. Seems slightly to miss the point to me, but still…

Riding bikes in the real world is, to my mind, much better. The news that Scotland is keen to promote mountain biking as a major tourist and business venture is excellent, as is the chance to sign up to ride a bike every day for the month of April. I would, but I already do normally.

Obviously that’s something you can do for yourself, although there’s something great about watching the pros at it. Luckily Red Bull will be showing the Mountain Bike World Cup races, and major outlets will be covering the Olympics. I have an issue with this “interactive guide” to mountain biking at the Olympics from the Guardian (which is a shame because their cycling coverage is usually OK and Bradley Wiggins’ blogs are showing an interesting insight). Anyway, so, I am fairly sure of the following things:
- Most XC riders at Hadleigh castle will be on carbon bikes.
- All will be running at least suspension forks.
- A majority will be running 10-speed.
- Some might even have Di2, which seems to be far more interesting to talk about than “thumb and forefinger operated levers”.
- Bunnyhops are only one of the skills they will need, and not that thrilling!

Rant over.
