Invisibility

There are moments when you just feel invisible on a bike. They seem to come in batches so there’ll be a week like mine where cars turn across you with drivers actually looking the other way, and other cars squeeze you into the curb, despite surely having seen you as they drove behind you for the several metres. However worst of all is other cyclists who decide that a sensible thing to do is to tear past inches form me as I’m waiting at a red light.

I have a number of suggestions for dealing with them, from the violent (imagining what would have happened if I’d lifted an arm to adjust my helmet at that point, catching him in the face with my elbow), to the slightly involved (Every cyclist that blows a red light should be made to jump every single one that come across, even if there is a constant stream of fast moving traffic going across – that should make them think twice). None of these are practical, and, let’s face it, near misses aren’t as exciting as crashes, so amuse yourself heading towards the weekend with this selection of people actually falling off their bikes (or watch the Tour de France Highlights from this year).
