In the ongoing perceived battle between bikes and cars on the roads it seems clear that you can go just far too far.
For example it is not a good idea to be involved in rioting, and help to tip over a car, when you’re a professional cyclist and are wearing your sponsor’s logo prominently on a tee-shirt. Even if you apologise you are very unlikely to remain with that sponsor, who might just happen to be one of the biggest players in financing extreme sports in the World.
Understandably there has been a fair amount in the media condemning Alex Pro’s actions, which seems obvious. However I was interested to see an entirely new angle on bike theft being touted by an American website. Here. It appears, that having a bike stolen is a valuable life lesson, and that the important thing is not to look at the person who took the bike, but at the owner and what he has learned from the experience in terms of the value of money (and, hopefully, locking his property). I suppose, at least, he got the bike back and I suppose “boy has bike stolen and returned” is not a particularly interesting story in itself.
