Racing and Car Hire

In all the excitement of the Giro, and the opportunities for writers to roll out exciting “exploding” metaphors as the peloton attacked the slopes of Mt Etna, the Tour of California seems to be taking a back seat.

This is a shame as on Monday night the second stage (which was actually the first stage as the first one was cancelled) was won by GB rider Ben Swift (and allowed the same writers a chance for puns based on his name as well). It was also intriguing for those of us who suffer in a rainy climate in that the first stage was cancelled due to bad weather. Yes, that’s right, bad weather in California, where everyone assumes the sun shines all year round. In actual fact it turns out California is huge and has every right to have bad weather in its northern end, who knew.

Follow the exciting drama in an American way here.

Closer to home it seems that van and car hire firm Thrifty are using London’s Boris Bikes in order to get back to base, or out to vehicles in their fleet. I like this as, even though it might be for reasons of efficiency, it’s still a load of people getting on bikes.
