Looking forward to a bike trip makes you debate replacing most of your existing kit, almost as if you were a pro setting on a major Tour (which is a way to sneak in a reference to the start of the Giro this week). In the end you it’s undoubtedly better to use what you have and are comfortable with, unless you’re still riding a bike that looks like this:
I came across this on the fill-in-a-dull-bit-of-a-Sunday-and-put-off-doing-anything-more-useful channel, “Challenge”. This channel shows exciting old episodes of game shows and included this gem from Jez Avery, who later went on to become a regular at MBUK, minus the moustache. If nothing else it should make you realise that mountain bikes have come a long way recently, and that bike-clothing has come even further. It also shows that inevitable progression of tricks that means that whatever the top guys could do 10 years ago is now seen as basic and you have to be pushing far further and bigger to be anyone.
If you do end up caving in and buying new kit then you might like to know how it actually gets to you, seeing as you are, on average, quite likely to have bought it from online bike shop giant, Chain Reaction Cycles, you might as well look at this which shows you how it gets form an order to the mail truck.
