The internet is a great thing that not only means that you can read this exciting blog on a daily basis and allows people like me to write and publish my thoughts without the hassle and expense of printing and distribution but also lets you buy things for far less and with less bother than actually going to a shop.
Clearly this is good for the likes of you and me who want cheap things and are a bit too lazy to go to a shop, but bad for the people who run shops, and for fans of any sort of actual human interaction. Luckily a popular big yellow book’s website is attempting to redress the balance by showing you videos of the actual shops you could be visiting when you look up their phone number. In many cases this includes pictures of the very people you might meet when you go there. This includes a number of bike shops and features some FMFT favourites like Mud Dock Cycle Works in Bristol. Ironically, perhaps, these videos are on the internet and might even make you feel like you’ve visited the shop without actually having to do so.
Talking of Bristol, which we did in a slightly forced way just then, there seems to be big news for urban mountain bikers there as the network of managed trails in the city is due to be dramatically expanded this summer. This will be an extension to the existing Timberland Trail which I have ridden for years, most recently at Christmas. There’s more about the proposals on Bikeradar and it looks like a fantastic addition to the already impressive resource so close to the city centre.
