Weekend Roundup

It seems it only takes us to take a day off and the world of cycling news goes crazy.

No sooner had we announced our hiatus in celebration of it being October than Alberto Contador was accused of eating some meat form a cow that had been being treated for asthma, or something. He therefore joins the long and illustrious list of cyclists who have either been accused of cheating, or who actually have, and allows anyone with a passing interest in cycling to research the effects of various drugs and try and remember their names for when you want to drop them into conversation.

If this was in any way unexpected what wasn’t was the Road World Championships taking place, and Rampage kicking off, or going down, or whatever the cool kids are saying these days, over the weekend. The Road World Champs were played out in Australia and resulted in Cavendish not winning – after rapidly deciding that he wouldn’t when he saw there were hills on the course. We also failed to win the women’s road race, but Emma Pooley did win the time trial. In the men’s time trial David Millar managed to come second, which would end up as a theme of the weekend as he was followed by Gee Atherton coming second in Red Bull Rampage on the Sunday night.

The thing is Rampage isn’t really about the winning, but the insane riding and the crashes, so check out Red Bull’s highlights here:

Zink’s 360 from the Oakley logo launcher was insane but I reckon anyone who can even attempt the course is something of a winner.
