Unexpected Praise

You can spend ages dutifully doing the right thing and think that noone has noticed, and then one day you end up having a conversation with a man on a scooter about how he’s impressed that you’ve stopped for a red light.

Since I live my life very much just to impress people on Peugeot scooters this has, obviously, made me happy. We agreed on running red lights being dangerous, and annoying other road users. I even resisted the urge to tell him I didn’t think he should actually be in the Advanced Stop Box, because I felt he might not be so friendly if I did.

I can now expect more compliments on my ability to stick to the highway code in another few years when I will undoubtedly receive them from a man with a pitbull, or in a Corsa XSI.

In the meantime it’s back onto the roads where it’s starting to be the lighting up time of year, and I’ll have to make more room in my bag for extra clothes in case it gets cold. Even now I am looking at a chilly ride home in damp clothes. Don’t you just love October?
