Lorries and Cavendish on the Tour of Britain

Unfortunately one of the very real dangers of cycling on London (or any other city, for that matter) roads comes in the form of lorries. There have been more reports of people being killed in horrible ways while riding a bike and coming into contact with HGVs than anyone wants to see. In light of this the London Cycling Campaign is launching a drive called “No More Lethal Lorries”, aimed at educating HGV drivers better and ensuring that they are more aware of cyclists on the roads around them. Go and sign up and support the campaign in the hope that it will reduce, or stop altogether, cyclist deaths in this way.

At the same time Camden council has this video which encourages us to "look out for each other":

Less concerned by lorries are the riders in the Tour of Britain, who today Potter round Heigham as I imagine Sky still desperately try and make something worthwhile happen after it all went horribly wrong in Wales. Tomorrow they are riding from Bury St Edmunds to Colchester, and for fans of HTC Columbia it’ll be the only chance to actually see Cavendish on the Tour, as the peloton will head through the village in Suffolk about halfway along the route. Ideally there would, of course, have been a sprint there, but I’m sure if the “Manx Missile” had been racing he would have ignored it on his way to a hunt for the stage win, where there are more cameras to come up with an exciting celebration for.
