Firstly some news. FMFT will not be here for a couple of days due to unavoidable circumstances. We will return probably on Tuesday 13th July with more exciting bits of news from the internet and fun FMFT experiments.
In the mean you can keep yourselves amused with these delights:
In London it turns out that there will be mirrors fitted on dangerous portions of the Cycle Superhighways to try to prevent accidents. The idea, I imagine, is much like those mirrors people who live in the countryside put on their driveways to allow them to see what’s coming, and for drivers going past to get a cool-looking fisheye view of their car as it does 50mph. It makes sense, although seeing cyclists on the highways are already in the road, it may just serve to give them a good view of the lorry that’s about to flatten them. We found this information on the website for an accident compensation lawyering company, so they can’t be holding out too much hope for the mirrors’ success.
In more groundbreaking news a courier company has been set up in Cardiff. I’m not sure why the idea of using a bike to carry packages around a city is worthy of coverage in the news, but it turns out that it is. The bikes at least look interesting and the possibility of carrying heavier packages is good, in case you desperately need to get a couple of small people carried to somewhere within the city.
If it’s your bike you need to transport around, and if you happen to be in America, then you can cut your costs drastically at the moment. If you fly with Jet Blue then you can carry your bike for free through July, in celebration of the Tour de France. That means that you can get your bike bent and bashed by baggage handlers, without the indignity of paying for it as well. (Although I’m sure that Jet Blue are a conscientious airline).
Finally Swindon might not be the place you would think to look for mountain biking, but the work of the guys at MBSwindon looks to be doing a lot to change that. I like to see projects like this – it gives me hope that there can be fun local riding without having to live in Wales.
