As the slippery streets continue to make the first and last few metres of my ride to work a battle against rotational forces (specifically the pressure to rotate slowly and gracefully in a downward spiral onto the road facing back the way I came), I have again been pushed onto the internet to bring you the latest and most interesting bicycle news.
If you’re staying off the bike then you’ll need something in your house to prove to the world that you do love bikes (I go with bikes hanging on the living room wall, but some people have less understanding partners or more damageable carpets). Thus I have discovered this box. I’m inclined to think that it fits into the homes of those who spend far too much on a bike they don’t need, and then don’t ride it when it gets a bit wet, cold or icy, or indeed, if they might sweat on the frame (leaving a week a year to enjoy the bike), but I’m hardly an expert on interior decoration and wooden boxes. I do like it, and you could always put cutlery in it if you don’t have shiny enough bike tools (basically all mine are covered in bike grime and would totally mess up the fancy wood-work).
In the spirit of living your life on the bike, this family are riding across America all on one bike. Never mind the distance, I think the really impressive thing is spending that long in that close proximity to your family. Who else could put up with staring at the same backside, which you’re related to, for that long?
Finally, Peugeot are celebrating their 200 year anniversary with a slick and nostalgic new TV ad that will hit our screens soon. I only mention it because it features a bike and reminds me (in my own nostalgic moment) of a white Peugeot BMX with three-spoke plastic wheels that I had back in the day. If only I’d kept it I’d have the ideal bike for messing around on when my mood goes more towards playing on a bike, than riding anywhere seriously.
The Peugeot Alchemy ad is here, and Peugeot are also set to return to the UK bike industry in the Spring.
