If you’re fed up with some of the less-than-satisfactory bike lanes around London then maybe you could start to take your own one along with you. No, I don’t mean rolling out a green carpet, along the roads you want to ride, but a patent-pending invention that allows you to have your own laser lane to ride along. Light Lane has been designed to designate an area around your bike at night and encourage drivers to give you a wider berth on the roads. It might look a little like you’ve pimped your bike Southend-style with neon lights under the body kit, but you will have your own little bit of bike lane wherever you go.
There’s an old last-ditch bike fix that, rarely, gets used in mountain biking. The idea is that if you puncture and are out of patches and tubes, and the tube’s too shot to knot and fix then you can fill the tyre with grass and just about make it home. I don’t know of a single person who’s ever made that work properly, but it seems it’s more common in Central America. You have to use what you have to get where you’re going, I guess, and if al you have is 7lbs of “grass” then you have to make do for your bike ride over the border.
