A big favourite, Cav, was in the mix but the surprise finisher was Ben Swift who actually held him off to take third in the end behind Alexander Kristoff and Fabien Cancellara. Cav's sprint faded to not hold the lead to the line.
After 294 cold/wet km's, I had to go for broke (win or nothing) & start my sprint early. It didn't pay off, but I gave my all #MilanoSanremo

Thanks for all the messages. That was a long cold race. Very happy with my first Milan - sanremo though.

I also braved the rain to get out for one of two rides this weekend. The first one was an old classic.
It was one of those rides that felt like a bit of a battle for some reason, with an early puncture yet again. The trails are blocked with a lot of fallen trees and the mud varied from dried out quick running sections and then sticky mud in the woods where it hasn't dried fully. The chalk in the Chilterns is damp and slippery to make it a challenge on every turn and climb.
