Double Strike

Well it turns out I was wrong. The freewheel was not the problem. I mean, to be more precise it probably was part of the problem given the state of the hub I took off, but it wasn't all of the issue.

What seems to be more of a problem is a spectacularly worn sprocket. This isn't doing too badly considering how long I've had it on the bike but the demise of such an important part leaves the bike unridable. I struggled through another ride home easing the bike away from every stop and up every hill but the slipping chain is really beyond usable now.

So now with a well timed Tube strike I'm hopefully waiting on delivery of a new sprocket before the bike can go again. By the time you read this I will have decided on either fighting public transport on what might be the most annoying day to get anywhere in the last few years, or headed to work on the mountain bike.
