Boris Bike Journeys

Yesterday was all about travelling Boris Bikes in the news. Two different stories hit the press, with a common theme, which should be gold for a struggling blogger like me.

Firstly a bike was hired in London and then then taken to France up to ride up Le Mont Ventoux. I like these adventures that are all against the clock and a trip to do something basically stupid. They got the bike back with 22 seconds to spare before they would have been fined.

Elsewhere another Boris Bike was seen in The Gambia. I’m guessing this one will now be incurring fines galore.

Finally there was a bit of controversy as PCSOs seem to have been given powers to stop and fine cyclists without pedal reflectors. This goes along with the ability to stop cyclists without lights, which seems reasonable, but pedal reflectors seem a little too far considering clipless pedals to not allow them, meaning a huger percentage of cyclists are breaking the law in theory. It feels a bit like the government’s response to cyclists dying on the roads is to bully as many as possible off the bike by enforcing rules that have largely been ignored for years.
