Glowing Reviews

There's almost always a World Cup going on in cycling and this weekend it was the turn of the track racers to step up. There were excellent performances from the GB women as Laura Trott and Joanne Roswell took a couple of golds each and the team pursuit group smashed through to yet another world record. The men did less well, but the story from the GB camp is all about building up to Rio so that's OK, and to be honest, I think it's more fun to look at this clip from the BBC of a commisaire narrowly avoiding getting wiped out by a crash.

Staying with the GB Cycling set-up, or, rather not as the case may be, it has been announced that Shanaze Reade will be taking time out from the development programme to go and race the ABA pro BMX series in the States for a season.. This seems like an excellent plan for her to be racing the best in the world in a build up, once again, to Rio. Everyone seems very sure she'll be back into the GB scene, and it does nothing to damage the reputation of the country's athletes as she gets exposure on the pro circuit.

In the real world of everyday riding there was revelation as a casual cyclist filled some column inches with ill-thought out ideas about what the way you ride into work shows about how you are at work. I'm not sure I agree with any of what she says, but then you have to remember that cycling is all popular with the media right now and if you can shoehorn it into a helpful business article then you probably have some sort of a winning combination.

Much more sensibly in my opinion was this glow in the dark cycle path idea. Imagine being able to confidently take those darker trails on the way home form work. Actually how about them on every trail centre, helping to make those night-rides a bit easier and letting us all ride a little later into these darkening evenings?
