A break threatened to stay out, but with Sky driving behind that was never going to last to the end, and they dragged it in slowly to protect the first and second places on the GC. Interestingly there was a little dig from the big men of the race as Martin and Quintana struck out on the last big climb, forcing Wiggins to come out of the pack to mark him, or just to assert his autority.
It all came together as the outskirts of Llanberis beckoned which set up a sprint finish after some spectacular racing on another fun day in the Tour.
To round it all off Cavendish came through to smash to the stage win, really showing that after a few days of marking each other the big guns of British cycling are now making it serious and putting in the big moves.
It's shaping up nicely and this is what we all want, Wiggins in the lead and Cav winning a sprint. Fabulous.
Today the race goes twice up the potentially decisive Caerphilly mountain. Expect more drama.
