British Showcase

The Tour of Britain really showed that it's here as a serious bike race yesterday as the stage into Kendal showcased some proper bike racing as some huge names in the sport got into it.

An early break was swept up on Honister Pass as world class climbers Martin and Quintana danced up and through rain They were caught and the race reset until Lovkvist went on a solo attempt that was finally spoilt by Coilek who caught him in the last section if the race and took the sprint win.

Fabulous racing in the rain in a race that is clearly coming of age.

Wiggins finished safely having helpfully fallen on Visconti when he could have landed on the road. The Italian went out of the race while Wiggins rode on. Dan Martin's attack didn't win him anything but he clearly wanted to have a dig at Sky. Tomorrow is a time trial so expect serious performances from the Brit who seems to either be “Sir” or not depending who's talking.

Also showcasing the British countryside was Chris Akrigg who is neatly solving the irritation of stiles and gates on a ride:
