British Round-Up

Time to bring you up to date with all the news from this week so far.

Let’s start on the road where a bike was stolen at the RideLondon event a couple of weeks ago, which is no big surprise in itself in the middle of London. However the thief was caught on camera taking part in the ride on the stolen bike. This seems pretty stupid for a thief, and let’s hope that the coverage of this gets the owner his bike back.

Also road based the teams were announced for the Tour of Britain. As I predicted this will be an opportunity to see Sky Procycling on home soil so a chance for some huge names to ride the race. I’ve heard rumours about Wiggins using it as part of his comeback form injury, so my money would be on a team build around him and some of the home-grown Sky riders, so perhaps we’ll see Swift, Thomas, Rowe, Stannard and ToB favourite Tiernan-Locke on the roads? In British terms, the inclusion of Garmin means David Millar is a possible and with OPQS there as well we could see Cavendish. With Movistar joining the race as well there could be more big names, although I can’t see it being a race for their big guns so perhaps no Quintana or Valverde.

I would be surprised to see Froome race the British tour (but happy to be surprised). If he is there expect to see him looking at stems. His own, and others.

Let’s not forget mountain in all of this road-love. Bike Park Wales is inching closer and who can launch anything these days without a video series. Part one is here:

Want to see why Gee Atherton was so far down the start order on Sunday’s World Cup race? This was his crash in qualifying.

Don’t know about you, but I feel for him…
