I went for a ride:
Now. Let’s get this straight. There were some issues.
I was slightly hungover. This wasn’t so fun in the heavy humidity, and probably resulted in the slight navigation error at the start. You probably wouldn’t have noticed that to be honest, but there are extra points for any reader who spots the other major accident?
Let’s just say that the maximum speed I hit on the ride was not exactly 106kph. Neither did I exactly ride the full 40KM it suggests.
The reason for me forgetting to turn off the tracker before driving away in the car was undoubtedly the couple of kilometres that I had to walk after snapping the chain and discovering that the chaintool I was carrying was unusable.
Anyway. The ride?
Yeah, despite everything it was great. This end of the Cotswolds seems full of narrow and technical bridleways. Downhills that had me hanging on as I threaded through brambles and nettles on loose rocky steep plummets. It also had slippery and tough climbs on Cotswold limestone. It was enough to have me on the edge of control and concentrating hard as the sweat poured off me.
One to go back and do again, with fewer problems I think.
