Jazz. Nice.

You would be surprised at just how much mountain biking and jazz festivals go together.

This isn’t strictly true, but I have somehow had two weekends in my life where a few days riding have combined with a local jazz festival and the opportunity to drink off the bike well into the evenings. First this happened in the small peak district village of Edale, and then again on my German adventure to Idstein.

Amongst some excellent German beer, food and various bands in a lovely mediaeval town the jazz gives me the excellent and unlikely opportunity to share the 90s rock re-imaginings of Jazz Against the Machine.:

This brings me neatly on to the second ride I put together for the weekend. This one took in two classic points in the area, brought me in to contact with a large number of lycra-clad bikers as well, but still somehow only included wide fireroads:

Maybe it’s already there, but it strikes me that some of the forest needs to be developed further. How about some mountain bike-only trails linking the existing fireroads, to make it more interesting? The key would be then to make them legal, and include them on maps to attract more riders like me who them won't be disappointed with a lack of technical-going to challenge them.
