Fort William and Froome

Any doubts anyone had over Chris Froome’s talent were probably put to rest yesterday as he took on the biggest climbers in the business in stage five of the Dauphine and beat them to win at the Valmorel summit finish, reacting to an attack by Contador and, then beating him in his natural territory.

It might be the perfect time to take the lead with the race finishing on Sunday.

Also on Sunday, as I may have mentioned a few times, is the opening round of the Downhill World Cup, at Fort William. Twitter has been abuzz with news of the top riders heading towards Scotland all week and it’s set up to be a great opener, where we shall see just who’s on form after the winter. Will it be another dominating season for Aaron Gwin? Will the new guard come through in the shape of Brooke MacDonald or others? Can Peaty pull out a better season than 2012? Will riding in the world champ’s jersey mean a storming season for Greg Minaar, or will it be Gee Atherton’s year again? How about Danny Hart? And will Sam Hill’s new team be a good move for him. Will Cedric Gracia be back and back on form after his horrific crash last year?

You can watch it all live on RedBull:

Gee Atherton will be racing, and why not get in the mood (or, you know, “stoked, “psyched” etc) by watching this stunning video of him riding with a peregrine falcon:

There are more behind the scenes pictures here.

Finally, the protests about the CitiBike scheme in New York have hit a new low. Seems to me that some people just need to chill out about it.

I won't be here on Monday, but expect more on Tuesday 11th June.
