New York and the New Order

I imagine that you are now itching to see the product of Danny MacAskill’s mind as the Imaginate preview films have hugely whetted your appetite as they have mine.

We’re all going to have to wait.

While everyone has been getting on with riding about, the launch of the New York bike share has caused all sorts of news around the world. There were complaints that the docking stations were unsightly and blocked access to buildings for emergency services (except it didn’t) and any number of frankly made up excuses about why it was a bad idea to introduce a bike share scheme to a city clogged with cars. The first bikes were rolled out this week, one was instantly reported stolen, people moaned about how much each one had apparently cost and now people are using it as yet another excuse to be late to work. While other cities around the world have made it work fine New Yorkers seem to be managing to make it seem like the most complicated and awkward idea in the history of everything.

Still, they’ll figure it out.

This weekend, in the world of pro racing, the much-joked-about-recently Criterium du Dauphine kicks off. It’s nothing to do with dolphins, unfortunately, but is the major warm-up for the Tour de France. The last two years have seen Sky win it with Bradley Wiggins and it seems likely they will aim for a third win with Froome finalising his build up to the big event.
