Rough Riding

It’s impossible to ignore the big race yesterday as Paris-Roubaix battered a load of professionals across the cobbles of Northern France. In the most brutal of the Spring Classics Team Sky had some favourites, and featured early on. However it’s a race for the strong men and perhaps the strongest around Fabian Cancellera rode off a strong challenge from Team Blanco (ex Rabobank) Sep Vanmarcketo take a third stunning win with a powerful road ride followed by real track tactics in the velodrome. At least Sky were responsible for some stunning images of the race..

Roubaix is one of those exciting races that has everything, including crashes (not least as a FDJ rider wiped himself out over a road sign) and the cobbles make an extra element to spice things up.

Much is made of bike choice in the Hell of the North and it seems that maybe the hipster commuters of London are also finally paying attention to the right type of bike to ride, by abandoning fixies. This is a good thing.

As the riders bashed over the pave at least some must have been wishing they were on something a bit les rigid:
