Well they start here. I find it easy to forget that the respectable (Olympic) side of extreme bike sport is actually still a full-on thrill-fest. The size of the jumps and the speed with which the riders hit them literally elbow to elbow is awesome and shows stunning control to an entirely different level from mountain bikers, even racing 4X, and slick-tyred racers (who tend to keep the wheels on the ground). Anyway. Enough from me. Have a look:
Having said that there are still thrills to be had on the road, and it must be about time to start the build-up to Saturday's Giro d’Italia start? There are people in the sport who know their stuff and who really think Wiggins can do it. Let’s not forget that if he wins he will hold both of the biggest Tour titles for a few weeks at least. He’s been fairly quiet in the lead up, with frustrating results , but I’m excited to see the Sky machine working hard and focussed on him again. It all starts on the 4th May, which is a bank holiday weekend so you can enjoy all the action through until Tuesday.
For once, there’s also some good news relating to bike theft. The Met Police have recovered 250 bikes in one raid in Clapton and appear to have made a dent, at least, in a highly organised bike-crime operation. Let’s hope the bikes find their way back to the owners and the raid has a real impact in reducing thefts, at least for a while. At least it’s nice to know that there are occasional breakthroughs in the fight against bikes being stolen.
