I have also been made aware that the Museum of London will be holding a “Summer of Cycling” this year. This will include:
- a foyer display about the relationship between London cyclists and the city’s streets – including our newly-acquired ‘Boris Bike’ and the data we have acquired with it that allows us to track its movements for the past year; a film presenting footage of journeys from the perspectives of cyclists, created using a ‘helmet cam’; vox pops from London cyclists in bike cafes; and a selection of bikes from our collection that show how our ability to move around our city has changed over the past 150 years
- a new art commission by illustrator Ugo Gattoni in the Rotunda space – inspired by photographs of Londoners and their bikes, Ugo will create ten new life-size illustrations to reflect London’s cycling styles
- a weekend of events for adults, during the last weekend of July – including a bicycle-powered film screening, talks about cycling and fashion, and an upcycling workshop
- a programme of cycling-inspired family activities through August and September.
This all sounds great, and the Museum need photos of you in your cycling gear to include in the exhibition. Have a look here and contribute to see yourself in lycra on show in public.
