Inside and Out

This weekend was all about either riding inside in the warm or outside in the freezing cold.

Milan - San Remo was so brutal that the race was split half way for a neutralised section that saved the pros riding in what were astonishingly bad conditions. Think that maybe this was just diva athletes being a bit precious? Well this is how Dave Millar looked at the break:

Once it got going again Sky tried to control the race, but at 10K to go their effort fell off and a brave 3-man break went out including Ian Stannard. He looked like making it but was overhauled with 1km to go with the win going to Ciolek. Several riders involved in the last moves, including Chavanel and Taylor Phinney were rumored to have abandoned the race, demonstrating the confusion around this extreme ride. Stannard finished 6th with Cavendish the next placed Brit at 9th.

Indoors there was BMX action form Estonia at the season-opening Simple Session. Hopefully you watched live on this blog (or on exteme.com), and saw the insane level of riding that sets the scene for 2013.

Away from the competition scene my eye was caught by a couple of solutions for real-world cycling problems. First a fairly elegant solution to bike storage in a very Dutch style. You can store your bike at home, but if you take it out you might well be tempted by this tracker that fits in the headtube and should let you find wherever your bike ends up. You’ll want to do this as you have to fit the system with a phone sim card, and you’ll want that back as well as the bike.
